Pacifico 6 Sur occupies a wide piece of ground in Pacifico Estates, on the gated peninsula that Punta Mita keeps to itself at the edge of the Riviera Nayarit. The grounds do most of the work here. The house sits inside them rather than on top of them, and the first thing you notice on arriving is how much room there is between one part of the estate and the next.

Eight bedrooms and nine bathrooms take sixteen guests. Several living areas give the house more than one centre, so a group can break apart in the evening without anyone actually leaving. The gourmet kitchen is finished for real cooking, whether that is yours or the private chef's, arranged in advance through the concierge.

The pools are spread through the grounds, and the days follow from that. Somebody is in the water early. Somebody comes down late. The middle of the day belongs to whoever claims it first. The two Moke cars sit parked and waiting: one goes off toward the golf, the other toward the beach clubs, and both come back at some point in the afternoon with a story about the road. Nothing on the property asks to be organised in advance, which is the point of a house this size.

Premier Golf membership comes with the estate. It opens both Jack Nicklaus Signature courses, including the Pacifico's hole 3B, the only natural island green in the world, reached by boat when the tide allows. The practice facilities, the clubhouse and Punta Mita's private beach clubs are all covered by the same membership.
